“There is also increasing global demand for American-style higher education. Students all over the world want to come here, and some American universities, including N.Y.U. and Yale, are building campuses overseas. Higher education is widely regarded as the route to a better life. It is sometimes pointed out that Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg were college dropouts. It is unnecessary to point out that most of us are not Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg.”

These are three illustrations from a recent school project I just completed. I named the project “Birds who can’t fly but try to fly using other means.” Or something to that effect.

This wasn’t my favorite school project I’ve ever worked on but I do like how they turned out from an illustration/icon point of view. But, I can’t complain; I got to spend a few weeks on my senior year of college drawing penguins with rocket ships. It doesn’t get much better than that.

I am completely smitten with this promotional mailer for Loylola University Maryland. In a market that is full of stale, boring, and traditional graphic design, this full newspaper style mailer stands out wonderfully. The mix of fantastic illustrations, colors, and photography as well as relevant and fun copywriting make this piece pretty much perfect.
Be sure to look through each spread because their is not one miss in the entire piece. Every single page is brilliantly designed and arranged. Loylola has sold me and I wish more colleges and universities would take some risks and promote themselves in more daring, original and just plain fun ways.
